About our speakers:

markminasi400x524Mark Minasi

Mark Minasi is a best-selling author, popular technology columnist, commentator, keynote speaker, and IT consultant.  He first got the chance to play with a computer at a university class in 1973. At that time, he learned two things:

– First, computers are neat. (People still said “neat” back in 1973. Hey, it was back in the 20th Century.)

– Second, many technical people are very nice folks, but they can sure put you to sleep in an instant while explaining technical things.

Mark transformed those two insights into a career making computers and networking easier and more fun to understand. He’s done that by writing over a thousand computer columns, several dozen best-selling technical books, and explaining operating system and networking planning, installation, maintenance and repair to crowds from two to two thousand. An independent voice hailed as “Favorite Technical Author” by CertCities four times out of four, Mark has the unusual ability to take even the most technical topics, filter out the hype and explain them in plain English. Perhaps that’s why when TechTarget hired him to deliver a webcast on PC tuning, he drew three times as many attendees as any of their previous webcasts, crashing Yahoo’s servers, and why he’s been hired to deliver keynote addresses at hundreds of techie conferences around the world.

Mark is probably best known for his Mastering Windows Server and Complete PC Upgrade and Maintenance Guide books, both of which have seen more nearly two dozen editions and sold over a million copies. An audience member at a recent talk remarked that he believed that Mark could “do a talk on watching paint dry that would be so good that people would be motivated to go home and paint a wall just to experience the joy of drying paint.” While this has led to many very tempting offers from the likes of Sherwin-Williams and Behr, he’s decided to stay with his first love… technology.

Mark’s humorous, provocative and yet informative style makes him a favorite of audiences around the world.  Mark’s firm, MR&D, is based in Pungo, a town in Virginia’s Tidewater area which is distinguished by having one and only one traffic light.

Detailed agenda:

08.00-08:30      Coffee and light breakfast

08.30-09.45      Mark Minasi – Picking the Numbers: Are 10 or 2015 (Windows, That Is) Winners for You?

Microsoft’s told us that there’s a new server and desktop version of our favorite OS on the way… but that they can’t tell us everything that’s in it.  (Apparently it’s sort of like Christmas you know your parents are getting you something, but you can’t know what it is until The Day, and in this case that day appears to be one in late-October.)

On the client side, you already know to get ready for (yawn) yet another new-and-improved UI. But Windows 10 is more than just a pretty or, rather new face.  It integrates with the cloud more smoothly.  It offers a new kind of app that runs on phones, tablets and full-sized computers. (Yes, Windows 10 will run on many of your existing phones.)  It supports an end to passwords … you won’t miss having to remember passwords, will you?.  Furthermore, it continues in the Vista-and-later tradition of continuously simplifying upgrades  — especially the in-place ones! — and deployment. (Of course, there’s that “where did Windows 9 go?” question, but you’ll get the answer to that at this talk.)

On the server side, it’s clouds again, both on the public and private cloud side.  Improvements to Hyper-V kick things off, extending and strengthening the foundation.  That’s followed by changes to storage — a nifty storage replicator that, unlike SAN “LUN replicators,” works between any kind of architecture, and a heck of a lot more cheaply, as well as, well, something they can’t tell you yet that’ll be pretty neat (but remember, you didn’t hear it from us).  Security improves in several ways, including a copy of Defender in every server.  You’ll see all kinds of “Software-Defined” things in Server 2015 and, on top of that, there is — of course — a pile of new PowerShell capabilities baked into this next Server.  And there’s even more things that, um, they’re not talking about just yet.

Join Mark Minasi, author of the 20-year series of best-selling Mastering Windows Server books, in this quick, entertaining look at the next crop of Windows.  Attend this session with Mark and he’ll convert the new software from a numbers game to a sure thing!

09.45-10.05      Coffee break

10.05-11.20      Johan Arwidmark – Windows 7 and Windows 10 Deployment – Notes from the Field

The uber-demo spaceship has landed… Join Johan Arwidmark in an hour (plus) live demo on how to build a Windows deployment solution, based on ConfigMgr 2012 R, MDT 2013 and Windows Server 2012 R2. Learn to master the OSD features in ConfigMgr 2012 R2, learn about deploying to EUFI enabled hardware, configuring BitLocker, adding drivers, and other real world deployment features as well as advanced troubleshooting. You learn to deploy Windows 7 as well as Windows 10 clients.

11:20-12:20      Lunch

12.20-13.35      Mikael Nyström – Building the perfect reference image for Windows clients and servers

If you your job is to create reference images for Windows Clients or Windows Server and you just have a feeling that it could be done better, this session is for you. Join Mikael Nystrom in this session and learn from a experienced deployment specialist how to build the solution including well know applications, how to make it much faster, how to make the image smaller and finally how to make 100% automated. That way you can lean back and watch the progress bar.

Warning! The session will contain demos, VB scripts and PowerShell scripts and a minimum of PowerPoint slides!

13:35-13:55      Coffee break

13.55-15.10      Jeffery Hicks – PowerShell in the Enterprise

PowerShell has been the primary management engine from Microsoft for a number of years now. Yet, some organizations lag in adopting or aren’t fully taking advantage of all the PowerShell has to offer. Think PowerShell is just a shell extension? Think again. PowerShell is the foundation for everything you do in a Windows environment. In this session, PowerShell MVP, author and trainer Jeff Hicks will explain why you should be using PowerShell and demonstrate its impact on your organization. From simple command to desired state configuration, PowerShell can drive your enterprise to places you never imagined.

15:10-15:30      Break

15:30-16.15      Paula Januszkiewicz – Hacker’s Perspective on your Windows Infrastructure:  Mandatory Check List

If there is a weakness in your IT security system, wouldn’t it be better to find it before someone else does? The worst thing is that even a small scale security breach could leave your business in poor condition and in the end information security is not an IT department’s problem, it is a business issue! As long as we are aware about the value of the resources to be protected, why don’t we put ourselves into the hacker’s role and perform all the activities they would do as well? Of course it requires some very specific knowledge that may be hard to learn when our work focuses more on creating than destroying, but the results will give us a perspective on what other people with bad intentions can see. Sometimes it is really surprising how often you can use the same paths to enter to the system! During this intensive session you will become familiar with the mandatory tasks that are performed by hackers or penetration testers in order to check for misconfigurations and vulnerabilities. Come and join Paula in the journey to the darker side of IT security and use this knowledge for making good decisions in your system. Do not forget to keep the mandatory security check list in your pocket!

Why to attend? Do you need to convince your boss?

  • There’s no better ROI than this event offers. How many times have you wondered about the varying levels of sessions and speakers in an event here in Finland? We’ve made sure that you don’t have to worry about it.
  • As there is no Techdays or other major events in Finland this year this is the one you should get funding for. The event is in Helsinki so you don’t have to travel outside of the country and most of you can even make it without staying at a hotel.
  • No need to choose tracks. This event is a one track success story – We’ve decided for you!
  • Not all can travel to US for Microsoft Ignite (previously TechEd) but all can see the Best it has to offer!
  • The content is pre-picked to fit Finnish customers. Our Conference Chair Sami Laiho has made sure of that. Sami is also very picky on the entertainment value of speakers – Expect to be learning a lot while at enjoying it!
  • All speakers are both MVP’s and among the best evaluated speakers anywhere in the world.
